The Vibe on 600 Block Spotify playlist updated with Robert Glasper, Blue Lab Beats, Ello Ella May, and more

We just updated our Spotify playlist, “The Vibe on 600 Block,” with choice cuts from Robert Glasper, Blue Lab Beats, Ello Ella May, Sault, and Grover Washington Jr. This playlist focused on musically dynamic and chill music from multiple genres including hip hop, neo-soul, downtempo, and jazz. We think it is the perfect playlist to vibe out with. Expect releases from 600 Block Records that fit this vibe.

This is a summary of the new songs we just added:

Why We Speak [Feat. Q-Tip & Esperanza Spalding]
by Robert Glasper, Q-Tip, Esperanza Spalding

This song is absolute fire and one of my favorites on Robert Glasper’s new album Black Radio III. How can you go wrong with these three amazing artists? Esperanza Spalding is an incredible bassist and vocalist. She sings in French and English on this track. Q-Tip shows off his vocal skills too.

Gotta Go Fast
by Blue Lab Beats, Poppy Daniels

This is my favorite selection from the new Blue Lab Beats album “Motherland Journey".” This cut is worthy of being released on the legendary Blue Note Records imprint. Poppy Daniels lays down an amazing trumpet solo that supposedly was done in one take.

Introvert Hotline
by Ego Ella May

I recently discovered Ego Ella May through the Spotify algorithm and I’m in love with her sound. It isn’t surprising that she is connected to the UK’s vibrant live music scene that gave us Yazmin Lacey, Kamaal Williams, and Theo Croker. I’m going to follow Ego Ella May and look for ways to connect her with 600 Block artists.

Masterpiece
by SAULT

This is my favorite SAULT track and yes it has been out for a while. It just seemed to fit perfectly after Introvert Hotline, so here it is. If you somehow haven’t been introduced to SAULT, this is your gateway into an impressive body of work over a short time span. If you dig it, be sure to check out Cleo Sol too.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World [Feat. Lalah Hathaway & Common]
Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway, Common

This song was first made popular in the 80s by Tears for Fears. Glasper, Hathaway, and Common take it to a new level. This song fits with all the geopolitical craziness in our world today. I remember the 80s video featuring world leaders fighting. It is crazy the Cold War era is rearing its ugly head again.

Hydra
Grover Washington Jr.

Keeping with a nostalgic tone, I added this classic rare groove cut that has been sampled by Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G., and Black Moon. This pulls it all together - soul, funk, jazz, hip hop, and laid-back vibes.

After this cut, we move into the existing playlist. I hope you enjoy it.
