Jazz On 600 Block Spotify Playlist Update!
We just updated the “Jazz on 600 Block” Spotify playlist as we officially enter summer, perfect for our cooler evenings in LA but a good match for wherever you may be listening to. While we have a foothold in jazz most of the time, this one is purely dedicated to one of America’s greatest exports — sharing works by artists both newer or well established, and songs from artists both local to us and across the globe.

This is a summary of the new songs we just added:
Love in Outer Space
by Nostalgia 77
Starting with the most traditionally jazz-sounding track of this rotation, the UK’s Benedic Lamdin aka Nostalgia 77 combines post-bop of the mid-century with interstellar sounds on “Love in Outer Space.” While Lamdin has pulled from funk and hip-hop, his 2023 record The Loneliest Flower in the Village goes back to the roots, blending the modal and spiritual sounds of the 1960s jazz legends to take us to Saturn — only he wants to take us back home with a refreshed perspective.
bee in my soda
by yeyts.
“bee in my soda” starts with the dusty sample of a jazz guitar and a few keys twinkling in the background, conjuring the feeling of being at a cafe on a rainy day. Just released a few weeks ago, the “jazz-hop” artist released the short but sweet single, bringing the calm wistfulness of old school sounding jazz guitar music with the modern hip-hop beats and lo-fi production.
Paz & Amor
by young.vishnu, pachakuti
With “Paz & Amor,” we get a little less in the lo-fi beats territory and instead find ourselves experiencing a more bonafide blend of jazz with modern day digital production. German-based young.vishnu and pachakuti have been longtime collaborators, creating everything from instrumental hip-hop to orchestral jazz together. But their newest work together as of their new singles in 2023 sound like a synthesis of their entire history of working together, bringing in beats with the lighter and layered sounds of modern jazz.
Calypso’s Groove
by Jules Hiero
Jules Hiero closes things out with his new single from earlier this month, “Calypso’s Groove.” The song starts things off with a chord progression on guitar and bass riff that almost sounds like psychedelic rock, if it weren’t for the beats kicking in. The Vienna-based producer has been a musical chameleon, who continually brings in sounds of American rap and jazz, French hip-hop, and Brazilian music into the fold. True to family’s Greek roots, he takes us on an Odyssey with his latest offering.
After these four tracks, we move into the existing playlist. We hope you enjoy it.
